Printmaking Combo Workshop - Linocuts and Gelli-plate Mono Prints

Judith Livingston will introduce participants to the cutting, inking and printing of soft, linoleum blocks to create numerous original linocut prints on a variety of papers. To create additional designer papers for more linocut printing, or other mixed media projects, participants will also experience the fun and freedom of Gelli-Plate Printing. Other topics such as incidental printing, mixed media enhancement, and multiple applications will be covered.

Equipment such as Bench Hooks, some cutting tools, brayers, and Gelli-Plate may be borrowed.

A recommended supply list follows. 

Additional  materials cost ($20 - $25), payable to the Instructor at the Workshop., 

Included in materials cost: acrylic inks, soft linoleum and printmaking paper.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels.


Students to Bring:

 -  $20 - $25 *Materials Cost - (cash only please) payable to the Instructor at the workshop

 -  9" x 12" spiral-ring Sketchbook (Dollarama $4)  (for print samples and off-set printing)

 -  White plastic table cover (Dollarama)

 -  Hand sanitizer & Baby Wipes for cleaning brayers and plates (Dollarama)

 -  Mister for water & Paper towels

 -  Masking tape - or - Painter's tape

 -  1 or 2 soft acrylic paint brushes & a small bristle brush to clean linocuts

 -  Assortment of non-shiny paper - newspaper, book pages, maps ...etc)

 -  2B or 4B pencil

 -  Tweezers, Scissors, Palette Knife & X-Acto Knife

 -  Glue stick (UHU best)  or  Acrylic gel medium (matte)

 -  Wax paper to transport your big stack of prints

 -  Black Sharpie (Fine) &  Black waterproof pen i.e Staedtler Pigment liner or Sakura Micron

 -  Reference image to trace: simple flower or bird or ? simple landscape or trees 

 -  Optional: Mark making tools (nothing sharp) i.e. sponges, thin (plastic) stencils, combs,

    interesting textures, plastic doilies, bubble pack...

 -  Optional: Mixed Media Enhancements: coloured pencils, Posca Acrylic Paint markers

 -  Optional: Acrylic paints- if you have them -  Black, white, your favourite colours

 -  Bring if you have them -  or -  Borrow from the Instructor:

 -  Bench Hook

-  Soft rubber brayer 

 -  Linocut tools (knives & gouges)                                                                 

 -  Simple image for linocuts

 -  Oil pastels, coloured pencils

 -  Gelli-Plate Purchased ( 6" x 6"  or  5"x 7" or  8" x 10" )  or  DIY homemade
