While experiencing the joy of watercolour, participants will  learn about the various pigments, papers and brushes used,  explore brush strokes, painting techniques, colour mixing, value systems, creating texture and special effects.  Subject matter to include simple landscapes, flowers, still life and abstract.

No supplies? - No problem ! - Purchase a Beginner's Watercolour Package with your registration.

 

Brushes:  ( Synthetic Gold Sable brushes work well )

- 1  Round brush (comes to a point) - #10 (or #12)

- 1  Flat brush 1/4" or  1/2" ( or 1" )

 

Palette:  White plastic (with lid if possible)

 

Paints: Tubes, cakes or pans. (Several brands available i.e. Cotman, Da Vinci, Van Gogh, ...)

   Colours: Cadmium Yellow (light) or Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Red Deep, Ultramarine Blue,

    Thalo Blue (aka Phthalocyanian Blue), Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre  + your choice of other colours          

 

Paper:  140 lb. cold press fine to medium grain 

            - Watercolour pad - 9" x 12"  (Canson Montval works well)

            -or - if using single, pre-cut sheets, a support board is needed

                     (a cello covered canvasboard works well.  Dollarama)

 

Miscellaneous

            - 2 large containers for water (large yogurt ideal - be sure edges are smooth)

            - small mister for paints (Travel size is good)

            - masking tape

            - paper towel or facial tissue - and - old clean towel or tea towel

            - HB pencil  -  and - eraser - kneadable (gray colour) or white plastic

            - Optional: Reference images of a simple landscape inspiration
